about

This album is a cataloging of pain and grief as I've experienced it over the past three years. I do so not to glorify the dark, but to create room for light and growth. I hope that anyone listening will share in my reflection and find their own paths towards the place inside themselves where they are free from want, need, worry and regret.

Track Name: How to Speak
Suddenly forgotten how to speak
In the middle of a conversation with you
You know you breathe
The air right into me and my lungs, my love

A godly bomb erupting silently in space
Passionate waves go running on a million-mile race
The lucky ones to reach us fill the sky in loving ways
An orange cast upon your face

And that’s all it takes
Love somebody, burn them in your mind
The funeral kind
Or maybe the fire’s too bright
Are your chains on tight

Bite the hand that feeds you
You've always wanted to try
Feed yourself and starve the ones around you
Let them die
No, who would I be
You wanna take the loving right out of me
Right out of me, out of me

Suddenly forgotten how to speak
In the middle of a conversation with you
You know you breathe
The air right into me and my lungs, my love

Suddenly forgotten how to speak
Track Name: Unbreakable Heart
Something here is touching my soul
Feel a wave of love beyond your control
But it leaves just as it came
You couldn’t catch its name
Forever running through your mind
Spirits undefined

Keep your feelings all to yourself
In a bottle upon an unreachable shelf
Only you see what you see
All I can do is believe
That we feel it all same
Sunshine and the rain

No one’s traveling through it alone
Everybody’s trying to make it back home
They just close their eyes and drive
And hope they’re still alive
As if their gods are looking down
Or up from underground

Open up your unbreakable heart
Let the world flood in just to tear it apart
Now I’m telling all my friends
I’m done with my defenses
I will let you knock me down
As long as you’re around
Track Name: Overcome
Who's it gunna be
The one to part the sea
Shows us all the things we've never done
What's it gunna take
To dream while I’m awake
Look at all the things we've overcome

When I go I sit with myself
Something brings me down
Feel it in the palms of my hands
Feel it all around

Told me it was too much to take
The pressure made your brain go numb
Even in impossible trials
Conquer as you’ve always done

There's no soul in only using your mind
There’s no flying without leaving the ground behind

Who's it gunna be
The one to part the sea
Shows us all the things we've never done
What's it gunna take
To dream while I’m awake
Look at all the things we've overcome

And what we haven't done
Has fallen by the wayside, it's a guessing game
I played it yesterday
When I gave you one more chance, I’ll give a million more
It’s what you used to love me for
With the weight upon my chest I should be dead by now
I'm still alive somehow

With all that's left undone
And the songs we've left unsung
We've only just begun
We're gunna overcome

Who's it gunna be
The one to part the sea
Shows us all the things we've never done
What's it gunna take
To dream while I’m awake
Look at all the things
Remember where you’re from
Look at all the things we've overcome
Track Name: If They Say
If they say that it's sink or swim
What does it mean to dive in
To hit the bottom then float to the surface

If they say that it's all or none
What does it mean to have some
How does it feel to be stuck in the middle

When it hovers over me
And it comes from underneath
It consumes me, oh

If they say that it's good or bad
Why does love make us sad
Forever and always always seems to turn into a "maybe when I'm feeling lonely again"

They say that it's live or die
What does it mean to get by
To live so long that it starts to kill you

And it hovers over you
And your calls aren't coming through
It consumes me and you, oh

If they say that it's start or end
Track Name: Icon
A love existing only as an icon
She only sees the things she has her eyes on
To only feel the things they have a name for
The real thing don't feel nothing like the icon

Is this what you expected
Eternally dependent
On something that destroys you
On suffering you’re drawn to

We're guilty of the same crime
Committed at the same time
A shallowness of feeling
Mistaken for the real thing

A love existing only as an icon
You're only in control with all the lights on
You're sad beyond belief and it's your own fault
The real thing don't feel nothing like the icon

I've hid you from the real me
The version that you can't see
We sugarcoat the surface
Of things we think are worthless

Got a message from above
It wasn't hard to comprehend
Said the one who's on your mind
Hasn't thought of you tonight
They seem to be just fine

I've always looked to you just like an icon
A beautiful relief I could rely on
And if something doesn't change how could it go wrong
But this pain hasn't changed and it's been so long
The real thing just ain't nothing like the icon
Track Name: For Sophie
No God of mine, no God I know
Would take away the best friend that I've ever had
No God of mine, no God I know
Would take a soul like that and make it hurt so bad

Bring her to the mirror but she turns her head away
Lay your head upon my shoulder, tell me it's okay
Always listen to you, never had a word to say

She was a smiling soul
She had a heart of gold
More than anyone I've ever known
She was a smiling soul

Rest your head, rest your heavy head
A day feels like a lifetime when you love someone
You can rest her head
But won't you take me instead
While the good die young the rest of us could go the same

What's it like to die without you ever knowing why
How do you tell the world you’re hurting when they've made you not to cry
Couldn't save the one you loved
But oh, you tried

She was a smiling soul
She had a heart of gold
More than anyone I've ever known
She was a smiling soul
She was a smiling soul
Track Name: Radiation
And the bully wants to call you names
Keep you playing in his nightmare games
You have the right to be silent, so you close your mouth

Hear them talking 'bout the end of days
Hear them say it on the radio waves
That kind of thing doesn't faze me if I tune it out

But you start feeling the sickness
So you start begging forgiveness

Radiation in my bones
It's a pain I've never known
When your life is on the line
You'll lie and say you're fine

Radiation from the sun
Touching down on everyone
And my skin is turning gold
Radiation

And the one you love has fallen out
Box of tissues and you're lonely now
But you refuse to feel sadness, so you fill yourself with rage

Pass the blame on everyone but you
It's the only thing you know to do
They say that hate is a poison that you drink yourself

So you start feeling the sickness
And you start begging forgiveness

Radiation in my bones
It's a pain I’ve never known
When your life is on the line
You'll lie and say you're fine

Radiation from the sun
People playing, having fun
And the happiness they feel
Feeling totally unreal

Radiation from the sun
Touching down on everyone
And my skin is turning gold
Radiation
Track Name: Giving up the Ghost
Some other species try to eat their young
Primal survival dripping down their tongue
Some kind of animal we choose to be
With a dark and sickened heart we try to kill the weak

I ask you brother do you know what hell is like
It’s the fire underneath you and it’s burning for all time
Like looking for someone to give all of your love
Just to find you don’t have enough

Color floods your eyes
The deep unclouded skies
As if you swim the coast
A movie starts to pass
Your life in photographs
Those you love the most

Rock the cradle
Kiss an angel
Keep yourself composed
Forget you’re breathing
Pretend you’re sleeping
Giving up the ghost
Giving up the ghost

I felt a peace you can’t imagine to be true
But it only stayed a moment, for it’s only passing through
Were you to grab it, you would crush it in your hand
Wanna hold it to the end but you know you can’t

I saw a garden that the earth has never seen
Where the river shines like crystal and the field’s forever green
I thought I captured it in pixels on the screen
But of course, it was all a dream
All a dream

Color floods your eyes
The deep unclouded skies
As if you swim the coast
A movie starts to pass
Your life in photographs
Those you love the most

Rock the cradle
Kiss an angel
Keep yourself composed
Forget you’re breathing
Pretend you’re sleeping
Giving up the ghost
In a permanent pose
Giving up the ghost
Track Name: I Feel Whole
It’s nice to see you again
And meet you for the first time
I didn’t know you then
Don’t even know myself sometimes

I’m ready to know you, I’m willing to try
I’m open to show you the troubles of mine

Body’s broken, throat is choking
I hang on the words that you don’t often say
I try to be open when I feel frozen
I’m blessed in the moments you’ve chosen to stay

You rode with me as my darkness flooded in
And you sang
Heard it pushing up from your belly and your soul
I held myself from crying now it’s under your control
From all these little pieces, I feel whole

My fate has cut me from you
As if it took a knife out and punctured its way through
I feared that this might all go south

I wanted to please you, get under the hood
But I only gave you the best that I could

Your past is present, so unpleasant
My thoughts of the future have darkened my days
Sun is rising, so surprising
It calls you to leave but I wish you would stay

You rode with me as my darkness flooded in
And you sang
Heard it pushing up from your belly and your soul

But you don’t sing to me no more
I’m not so sure that I could go without it
Hoping you’d extend your hesitant hand
If you can’t touch me I’m not sure who can
You’re not always so complete within yourself
But you withheld your problems, took on someone else
Someone like me
Don’t deserve anyone like you

You rode with me as my darkness flooded in
And you sang
Heard it pushing up from your belly and your soul
I held myself from crying now it’s under your control
If I return in weakness, if I call and find you speechless on the phone
From all these loving messages I wrote
From all these little pieces, I feel whole
Track Name: Sleep Forever
I'm alright
Got some good advice from my friends last night
Please don't die
We sleep better when we know you're alive

You can go to sleep forever
If you think you know best
But all the pain in your heart
Is put on all the rest
And you know that, but you're hurting
Don't give yourself away

I'm okay
Someone told me that they loved me today
Is it true
What's the difference if it's true just to you

You can go to sleep forever
But you won't get no rest
All the pain in your heart
Turns to someone else's mess
And you know that it would hurt them
So you figure you should stay a while

It hurts to smile when you laugh
The embrace of someone to run to
If you need me, I'll be here when you call
I know it feels like falling even when you're flying

You can go to sleep forever
It just might set you free
But all the pain in your heart
Bleeds out of you and into me
You love me, I love you
What more is there to say
